We are being bombarded with warnings about recession and economic disasters coming our way. However, it is possible to avoid the effects of a general downturn on business by creating your own upturn. It is not true that a reduction in national or global turnover means a reduction in YOUR business.The Truro News and Trader (TN&T) reaches 22,000 premises every month and it could be carrying YOUR message to all those readers. A well-worded and visually attractive advertisement every month can increase your turnover by much more than any recession can decrease it! There are businesses who have been advertising with the TN&T for years and find that doing so not only pays for itself but maintains a regularly higher level of turnover than they had beforehand.Now you are saying, "Wait a minute. This is a blog. not an advert" And I agree with you, but it is near impossible to talk about the benefits of advertising, when your business IS advertising, without sounding as though you are SELLING SOMETHING.But the point I am trying to make is this:Why would over 70 businesses pay for adverts in the TN&T, if it didn't work? Why would I spend so much of my time designing, laying out and printing adverts, if they didn't work?My customers are important to me. Their businesses are important to me. I will work hand in hand with them to make sure that they benefit from their adverts. Several people have tried to advertise their businesses, not just with the TN&T, and found that it doesn't work for them. I don't claim perfection. However, every now and again, someone will phone me up and say "Mike, could you take my advert out, please, I 've got too much work on and I can't take on any more." Now, you would think that that would be bad news. On the contrary, I am chuffed to bits to hear it. Because it is living proof of what I say about good advertsing. IT WORKS!One last little story:Someone asked me to design them an advert. I did so and sent it off to them. After I hadn't heard from them for a while, I had a small space left empty in the paper and decided to put their advert in it. On the first Tuesday of the following month, I got a call from them, asking if I'd put their advert in. I said "yes, but don't worry, as it was my decision, you won't have to pay for it! Why do you ask?" I enquired. "Because we have had three enquiries already today." They have been customers ever since.All the bestMikeH
